Frequently asked questions
Why does the GIF look better than other free tools?
Most free GIF makers use a single colour palette across the whole video, which causes banding and dithering. We run a 2-pass palette generation: first pass builds an optimised 256-colour palette from the actual frames, second pass quantizes against it. Result: sharper colours, smoother gradients, smaller files.
How long can the GIF be?
Up to the full source video length — but GIFs balloon in file size past ~10 seconds. For chat reactions, 2–5 seconds is the sweet spot. Trim your clip first using our Video Trimmer.
Can I make a looping GIF?
Yes — GIF loop count is configurable (infinite, once, or N times). Default is infinite, which is what most chat apps and social platforms expect.
What's a good size for sharing?
480px wide is the sweet spot for chat. 720px+ for blog embeds. Going past 1080p produces enormous files (10+ MB) — usually not worth it for a GIF.
Can I make a transparent GIF?
Not directly from a video — transparency requires a chroma-key step. For transparent backgrounds, use our AI Background Remover on the source video first.
Do you store my GIFs?
